I’ve always liked the Chevy SSR ever since the first time I’ve found out about it way back in 2o04 when

came out (love the game, very quirky lineup of cars in it). And the more I spent time reading about it, the more I want one.
And whats not to love? A retro styled, manual!, RWD, LS2 powered 400hp, foldable hardtop convertible hotrod pickup truck that looks like nothing else on the road! Which is not surprising considering the production model is almost identical to the 2000 SSR concept with a few minor changes. They also seem to hold their values pretty well which makes sense considering the SSR is a pretty unique vehicle that seems to have a strong following.
Thanks Bob Lutz for taking the risk and bringing such a unique and special vehicle like the SSR into production!

“A retro styled, manual!, RWD, LS2 powered 400hp, foldable hardtop convertible hotrod pickup truck”
That description^ makes me think fuck yeah!
Then I take a second look at it. But I am happy it exists for some reason.....

Actually the SSR didn’t have 400 hp until the later LS2 versions in 06. In 03-04 it had the vortec 5.3, 05 had a 390 hp LS2, and 06 had a 395 hp (auto) and 400 hp (manual) LS2. The manual was an option for 05-06. I would still love to have an 06 with the stick in red. There’s a yellow one that visits my apartment complex occasionally.

A tumour of love and amazingness!

Yup, I wouldn’t consider owning an SSR with the 5.3, it just wouldn’t meet what you’d expect from a truck like this performance wise. I’m pretty sure most sold with an automatic as well, but as long as there are SSRs with a 6-speed out there, nothings stopping you from getting one.

Have you been in one?
Cramped, awful interiors, terrible ergonomics; much like the Volt, Solstice/Sky, and camaro, too much of the concept car made it to production.

Haven’t been in one so I can’t tell you if this was a deal breaker for me.

I am surprised that nobody has made a crazy track day one. I’d like to see one with a Maggie, full exhaust, on a nice suspension, and a twin disc clutch. I bet it would be a blast to drive.

Maybe a Chevy SSR might fit?
